Hmm... Personally... It's hard to decide. I like both. Like I love the evil Robotnik from SatAM, the cliche kind of evil. But I also like insane monster evil as well, the kind that simply wants to make everyone suffer and do unspeakable things. There's nothing in the RP rules that say you have to be either kind. So if you're going for evil, have at it! Well considering that I tailor my antics to the audience's preferences, it helps to know. As for the canon characters Id pick Shadow or Julian Robotnik himself if at all possible though in truth even if I never touch a canon character its all good.
